Outline of irradiation tests
Irradiation tests using nuclear reactors
The Center conducts neutron irradiation tests using nuclear reactors overseas as well as in Japan.
Samples used in the tests must be of much smaller size than usual to make the best of limited irradiation space and to decrease temperature during irradiation and reduce the neutron flux gradient.
These samples (i.e., microscopic test pieces) are loaded in capsules for irradiation, which are designed to meet various irradiation requirements from joint researchers.
The photo shows some of inner cladding samples for capsules used in JMTR irradiation and irradiation samples used for the evaluation of mechanical properties.
